What Questions do You Have About Lipedema?

The end of 2023 was rough for me, so I took a break from posting. My job got crazy, I didn’t heal well after my vein surgery, and my body simply started to rebel. It wasn’t a good time. To recommit to myself and my own self-care I jump started my exercise routine, worked with a nutritionist to refine my keto, and found a new job. (More about that soon since I’ll be going back to an office part of the week!) Now that I’m starting to feel better, I’m ready to start posting again, but I want to make sure the content is valuable to you. You, Sturdy Reader, are why I do this.

So, tell me… What questions do you have about lipedema and/or lymphedema? What do you like about the site and what could be improved? Click here to share your thoughts in a quick 6 question survey. I’d love to hear from you!

Rebekah explains why she took a break from Sturdy Woman and shares that she is going to start posting again soon – but she wants your input!

Yay!! So good to hear from you, Rebekah, and glad you’re ok!! I have missed your blogs/posts/videos and haved wondered how you’re doing. A visit to my MD last week left me discouraged, a little angry and yet hopeful and adamant about gearing up for yet another battle! My weight is back up and my habits/lack therof (I felt) were not in proportion to how much weight I’ve put back on (almost to my pre-lipedema diagnoses weight).
Would love to have a team to gear up with as lipedema can be like fighting a war in which we win some of the battles and lose a few…but I am hoping to actualy make an ally out of mine since it is a part of me and we will have to live together til the end!
We all understand how much fortitude and discipline this journey to health requires; thank you so much for giving us a place to vent, learn, and share!❤

Hi Babette! I’m sorry to hear things have been bumpy lately – I can certainly empathize! I put on nearly 20 pounds last year with no major change to my routine. Guess the culprit – stress! Working with a nutritionist, getting some lab tests, and tweaking my supplements has helped. Sending you big hugs. You can do this and you are worth the work! Channel that frustration into your self-care and you’ll be amazed the difference you see in 2024. ❤

I’ve been worried about you!! Glad to hear you are ok, moving forward! I was worried for me, too! Was scared something happened to you that negated you SO positive posts! I am sure I’ve always since puberty have had lipedema, it never bothered me except for the shame 😦 but now after numerous injuries lymphedema in one leg after shingles on my foot/leg and my foot is numb. I am SO discoouraged… Not many talk about conservative treatments and no way I’m having surgery. I’m rambling!! I’mjust SO glad you are ok!

Thank you, Shelley! Sorry for my slow reply! I hit a bit of a wall with my own health and it was a reminder to take a break for my own self-care. So glad you are here, though, and I hope you are doing well! Having lipedema is hard work, but you are worth it ❤

Hi, I have a question regarding your challenge for the no dairy January. Would things like Raw milk or Kefir be ok or should be eliminated you think all together? I eat raw cheese because of the probiotics in them and thought it would help. The thought of going dairy free again makes me go crazy LoL it was hard finding replacements for everything. I also wanted to ask about your compression…czsalus, do you only do the over the foot ones or have you tried their “summer” version too? Living in Texas I was thinking of trying the summer version because last year the regular over the foot ones was dreadful! Thanks!!

Hi Heather! On the probiotics, a great way to get that in other than with your raw cheese is something like sauerkraut or seaweed salad. You’ll want to look for the one in the refrigerated section of your grocery store, rather than something in a can. Both are great fermented, low-carb alternatives. ❤

Hi! I was wondering, during your no dairy January, would that also include whey protein or do you not use it? Also about compression…have you ever tried their “summer” version? I have the open toe ones but in Texas the idea of having lighter ones when I go out or go to the gym sounds appealing…(I asked this twice because my comment wasn’t showing LoL )

Hi Heather! When I went dairy-free I also eliminated whey protein since it is made with cow milk. I love the taste of a good protein shake, but there are a lot of other ways to get protein so I don’t drink them anymore. I bought my first pair of the “summer” compression for a vacation in Florida last week. I’ve only worn them a few times so far so I’ll withhold judgement, but the key thing to know is that they have a different texture on the inside so feel quite different. They also don’t come in different lengths so will fit differently depending on height. ❤

Super glad you are back and doing better. I’m going to try a 30-day dairy elimination diet. Eggs too as I have always felt my body didn’t care for them. Still looking for a doctor who doesn’t look at me like I’m crazy when I ask about this. What a disappointment but will carry on until I find one. Thank you so much for all you do for us. It’s truly helpful and I want you to know it’s worth your effort and appreciated.

Thank you @jodiannpontureri! Your kind words are so appreciated. I’m sorry that your doctor hasn’t been supportive – unfortunately, that isn’t unusual! Sending good vibes. Let us know how the elimination diet goes! ❤
