Keep On | Music Monday

We did it, Sturdy Women! One week of 2022 is down. What are you doing with the next 51? Maybe you made resolutions, goals, and plans. (Did you take my advice to first celebrate 2021?) Are they going strong or already falling off track? Don’t worry, gorgeous, only 8% of New Year’s resolutions are successful. One of the heartbreaking reasons they fail is our own fear of success. Let that one soak in, then throw it away. You deserve all of it.

This week’s Music Monday pick is guaranteed to pump you up for big things. Real talk, this hasn’t been a good week for me but Muszette’s Keep On has carried me through. Honestly, I have been so in love with it I almost couldn’t wait for Monday to arrive to tell you about it. I have no idea why it isn’t blowing up the internet! Please head over to YouTube and give Muszette some love. I discovered her when an episode of Netflix’s Queer Eye featured another one of her songs (more on that another week). If you aren’t watching Queer Eye yet, do yourself a favor and head over there for some amazing make-over feels. In fact, you should probably do that as soon as you finish reading this post.

Keep On captured my heart from the first rebellious lyrics, “they told me to stand still / so I’m gonna keep on running.” Those two lines sum up my lipedema journey so beautifully. I received the double slap diagnosis in March 2020. You have a suite of poorly understood chronic diseases. There is nothing you can do. Thankfully, like Muszette, I called bull shit on that and took off “running.” Looking for answers. Praying. Experimenting. Connecting with glorious, inspiring, sturdy women like yourself. When I saw the same doctor a few months ago she literally screamed and ran into the hall to call the other doctors. “You won’t recognize her!” Oh, and that’s right, Sturdy Women, I can literally run now. Me, the woman who struggled to climb stairs. You know your body better than anyone. Heck, you live there. Don’t listen to anyone who tells you to sit down and wait for it to get worse. You deserve all your heart desires. You might not always get it, but you deserve it.

Muszette doesn’t stop with rebellion, though, she moves right on to motivation with her glorious refrain of “what happens tomorrow I started today / so keep your light shining.” Are you crying yet or is it just me? I can’t think of a better anthem to kick off the year, the day, or a new self-care routine. I literally whispered this to myself during last week’s tough moments… and it got me back in the fight. That’s what it’s all about, getting up for one more round.

Monday doesn’t stand a chance against you with Keep On playing in the background. “I will not surrender / can’t break my soul.” Turn it up, throw your arms in the air, and have an amazing second week of 2022. Go take what you deserve, Sturdy Women.

What happens tomorrow I started today.
